DRAWING UNIT INTRO

View the Powerpoint presentation titled "Drawing Mythbusters" to get an overview of development as someone who DRAWS!

After watching the "DRAWING MYTHBUSTERS" Powerpoint, answer the questions from the handout "All About Drawing" in your sketchbook. 

ASSIGNMENT 1: Shell Line Drawing

Using a combination of soft graphite drawing pencils, draw the shell with a variation of lines. (NO SHADING!) This means using lines that are thick and thin, dark and light, curvy and straight to get the natural effects of the shell.

WEEKLY SKETCHBOOK WORK:

Drawing ordinary objects, things you can see and hold, increases your drawing ability. Draw at least 5 of the following items life-sized in your sketchbook. Add details, and even shading for extra challenge!  Here is the list:

ASSIGNMENT 2: Natural Textures

Choose three of the six textures on the worksheets to represent on the boxes provided. Use combinations of repeated shapes, lines and values (shading) to draw the textures as exactly as you can. Use  combination of your soft graphite B pencils.

-your toothbrush

-a toy

-the TV remote or game controller

-a piece of fruit

-a fork

-a shoe

-a pencil sharpener

-a pair of glasses

a can of food

-a coffee mug

ASSIGNMENT 3: Mixed Media Exploration

Using the materials provided in your media kit, test them out on the grey paper provided. Make lines, marks, that are long, short, jagged, straight, dark and light. Colour a few patches with the chalk and charcoal. Try the kneaded eraser to see how it works. PLay around and have some fun!

ASSIGNMENT 4: Gourd and Feather Drawing

Using the large grey drawing paper and the materials provided in your media kit (charcoal pencil, vine charcoal, white chalk, blending stomp, kneaded eraser) and your graphite "B" pencils, draw the photo image provided below. Make sure that it is life-sized, and that your are drawing for an hour or more! Otherwise you are rushing and not providing enough detail or taking enough care. Use the new media to shade, blend and add highlights. Good luck.

ASSIGNMENT 5:  Close-Ups Photos and Drawings

For this assignment, you will need your phone or a camera, your drawing supplies and paper. You may download the paper for the grid at home, or draw the grid yourself with the directions provided. ALL INFORMATION AND IMAGES IS IN THE FOLLOWING pdf file:
